ARASHI 10TH ANNIVERSARY!
Individual Scene Vol.3 Kazunari Ninomiya
120% natural Nino at the National Olympic Stadium (Kokuritsu Kasumigaoka)
For ARASHI's 10th Anniversary project to have each solo member on the cover, Nino appears for our third installment. We played catch ball at the National Olympic Stadium, a place he had not stepped in since summer of last year. Catch ball at the Olympic Stadium? Please read the reasons for this below (laughs).
“The theme for this time isn't anything deep...(laughs). When we were making arrangements, Winkup-san asked "Would you like to play baseball?" But, I've never played baseball on my own. I wondered how we were going to do that (laughs). That's when I said, "Aa~! Then, let's do it at the Olympic Stadium?" Well, I thought we'd be able to take photos like that there (laughs). We had our concert at the Olympic Stadium, so I figure it would relate photographically, too. Since our concert, [I haven't been to] the National Olympic Stadium. When I went around the tracks, the audience seats, and stands, all the way up to the Olympic Torch, it really brought back memories. Like when we used that Olympic Torch in our performance, it was really scary~ (laughs). No, it was really scary, for real! Because there was no fence or anything. I thought like, "Aa, if I fall from here, I'd die..." (laughs). I remember it well. It really became a good memory, even now. Today I went down to the tracks and tried playing catch ball but...it was surreal (laughs). I mean, it's surreal, isn't it? There, it’s a place you run on (laughs). Ahhh~but, somehow...it was really a wonder. When you look at it with no spectators, you wouldn't really feel how huge the place is; when the spectators enter, the impression of the place changes completely, doesn't it? Once again, it was a wonder. Probably because we had a concert there once. If we did it twice or three times, I think my impressions would change again. We held our concert there, didn't we, ARASHI-san (laughs). ARASHI's gotten bigger, too? Wow...really, ARASHI, is amazing. I thought this yesterday while eating, even when I'm eating everyone would say to me normally "ARASHI's amazing, amazing." I've recently realized that ARASHI is pretty amazing (laughs). I, was kind of surprised.
Something to say for our 10th anniversary? Probably "Do your best" (laughs). Once our 10th anniversary passes, it'd be "Do even better!" It's better to try hard, isn't it. Because we've been trying hard for 10 years. Something I gained these 10 years? What I gained the most was........money, no? (laughs). I have a lot more than 10 years ago. Eh...something other than money? That's difficult (laughs). I wonder? Probably the edge, the brink. Like when quitting or starting something...I think my judgment of that has gotten better. I feel like I'm really good at seeing the "edge." Like, I can do close-cut saves, or close-cut outs(1). Individually and for ARASHI. I mean, Ohmiya SK was close-cut out (laughs). Yeah...that, was really out, seriously. The result was being out....that's a good example, Ohmiya SK. That was the edge of the edge (laughs). I think I've been able to judge that kind of "edge." When I look back on these past 10 years, it really was...long, it was. I mean it's been 10 years, you know? If I was a baseball player, I would have already reached where I wanted to go. Everyone would have gone to the major leagues. We really do our best, in the same places. 10 years is REALLY long, you know. It's just that, I've had my own endings and turning points but I haven't really been too aware of them. I kind of feel like...whatever, you know? I don't feel like I had a great birthday party when I turned 10 years old or anything. Nothing really changed from being 9 years old. When I turned 20 from 19, I was even sleeping...while holding my games (laughs). But I'm really happy to have everyone celebrate ARASHI's 10th year like this. I think it's really great to be celebrated. These 10 years? It's also great to look back on them like this. Because of that, we can have a festival like this. Therefore, I'm happy right now. Because it's really been 10 years. To have everyone say "Congratulations," is happiness to me. For real.”
(1) By "close-cut saves" and "close-cut outs," Nino is saying that he has gotten better at judging whether something would be funny, a hit, a success or a bomb, a disaster, fail. Think of it as like batting in baseball. It could be in the field or completely out, or on the line. Or running to steal a base and being safe, or getting tagged and being out. (Japanese people like baseball XD). Basically "out" in the way he's using it means something like "fail." Nino says that Ohmiya SK, was completely out of the field aka major fail because it was hilariously bad/out of line/embarrassing.
