Wahooo! Day three! Today we went to the Golden Pavillion, a world heritage site, a kimono fashion show, the Heian Shrine, Kiyomizu Temple, rode the Shinkansen, moved to Nagoya...the worse thing happened! It RAINED THE WHOLE DAY!! WAAAAA!!!!!!!

JAPAN CHRONICLES ~part three~

We had to wake up rather early today because of our stuffed schedule X_X Breakfast at the hotel was pretty good ^O^ We piled onto the bus after checkout and headed for our first program: The Golden Pavillion, a World Heritage site! ^O^ But it was raining ^~^"

The Japanese name for the Golden Pavillion is the Kinkakuji Temple I think? I don't know anything about it except for its title...I mean, why is it so famous? O_O Is it made of real gold? That'd be pretty awesome ^O^ Somehow I think it's covered in sheets of gold though...well, I never really found out and we're only allowed to look at it from a certain distance. We're not allowed to go into the Pavillion, so the only thing to do was to look at it and take pretty pictures. The rain sorta damped everything too =(

The Pavillion has its own park especially made for it but...there's not much to look at besides the Pavillion ^O^" And since that is the only main attraction, the park is very small. It only takes about half an hour to go through the whole place =_= When we got to the end, I was like "That was it? O_o" Even Sensei was surprised ^O^" Our plan was actually to spend a whole 'nother hour there O_O We spent about half of that in the shop at the end ^O^ It had a bunch of Pavillion souvenirs ^O^ I bought a little crystal ball with the Pavillion inside, a bookmark (hehe), and amongst other things, chocolate-covered mochi! ^O^ Golden Pavillion specialy ^O^ It has a really pretty box, hehe ^O^

Because our schedule got thrown off by the small park of the Golden Pavillion, we had to change our plans. So to fill up time, we went to watch a kimono fashion show! ^O^! Yay! ^O^ The show was really neat! ^O^ I think there were about 7-8 models; they all came on stage at least twice wearing different costumes. I took too many pictures ^O^ I'll just show you my favorite ones ^O^

So pretty ^O^ After that we did some shopping on the second floor of the building ^O^ They had a whole section for male clothes (suits and neckties), another section for little keychains and stuff (I got my friends their presents there =P), and the last section selling kimonos! ^O^ I bought a kimono for my mom =P It's really pretty because it's silver and I got a polyester one...I didn't get the cotton one because I thought it might itch in Thailand? O_O I dunno, so I got the polyester one just to be safe ^O^

I thought this was cute XD

We headed towards Heian Shrine after that ^O^ The Cafe JIN thing was jus a sign I saw on the streets when the bus stopped for a light ^O^ Heian Shrine is veeeeeeeeeeeery big. When you go in, there's a biiiiiiiiiiig lawn that stretches beyond your site...must be about 100+ metres...until it gets to the actual shrine ^O^" But the rain! O_O! The rain Q_Q! It was cold and dreary and icky X_X Plus we had to wash our hands and mouth..O_O It's a tradition you have to do before entering a shrine/temple. You wash your hands and rinse your mouth at this er...water basin kinda thing ^~^" It's not very pleasant to do so in the cold! X_X! EEKKS! I actually misheard the guide when she said to "rinse your mouth", I thought she said "drink the water" O_O So I did. BLEEEEEEEECH. Well, it was still drinkable..I mean, I didn't die of a mealworm ^O^" I only found out afterwards that we just have to rinse our mouths...hehe XD

A red gate that signifies a shrine or a temple. This one was across the Heian Shrine (there was also one to the entrance of the Shrine).

Going inside was...COOOOLD!!!!!!!! We were pratically slapped in the face by the freezing cold wind X_X Most of the people stayed huddled at the entrance, not wanting to go in because it was too wet and cold. I went in though ^O^ There was actually a couple getting married ^O^" There's a garden at the side of the temple, and it they were having a photo session there. The bride was all white; her kimono and her face were all white. What a wonderful memory though...gettting married drenched with rainwater on a gloomy dark day with no sun -_-" There was actually an apprentice geisha there too! A maiko! I didn't get a chance for a picture of her (she didn't look really happy with all the rain), but my friend did ^O^

But I was frozen X_x My gloves were SOAKED. My socks were DRENCHED. My coat was WASTED. And I couldn't feel my nose X_X One of my friends exclaimed, "It's chucking fold!" LMAO XDD! Anyway, since everyone was huddled at the entrance from the cold, we didn't know if we were actually going to go to the actual shrine or not ^O^" Only a few of us did.

So we (about 8 of us) RAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAN across and got into shelter X_X There was actually not much in the Shrine. Where we were standing, it wasn't the actual shrine. It was just a place to pray. There was a little bridge strechting across to another building - that was the actual shrine but we weren't allowed to enter. No pictures either ^~^" Sensei taught us the right way to pray the Japanese way...er..I've already forgotten though..something like bow twice, clap twice, pray, bow once more, and throw the money or smth XD
Then we ran back again ^~^"

We ate lunch after that at a Chinese restaurant (don't ask why). It was kinda sad and lonely looking; the room we ate in looked like a storage room ^O^" But the food was good ^O^ I had to hang my coat at the rack hoping to dry it out X_X

Then we walked to Kiyomizu Temple X_X It was a rather long walk because it's waaay up in the mountains. There were a lot of shops along the way but I didn't buy anything. The Kiyomizu temple is very vast, and has many parts to it that I can't even begin to explain X_X It had a beautiful view though ^O^ But still friggin cold...*sigh* There was another place to throw in money, and in front of it, were these three big metal staffs. One really big one, a medium-sized one, and a little little one. It is said that if a man can lift the really big one with one hand, he is very strong. The medium-sized one is for women and the little little one is for kids ^O^ The really big one looked like Miruku's staff from Inuyasha, but it's not XD Looks similar though ^O^ The really big one is SUPER heavy; it took four guys in our group (using both their hands) to lift it O_O The midium-sized, the guys could lift individually. Everyone could lift the kiddie one XD The medium-sized one, I could kinda lift~but it was still heavy ^~^"

The really big Miruku's staff look-alike ^O^

We walked even more and we got a really good view of Kyoto ^O^ We then walked down and came to a place called...well I dunno what's it called but it has three streams of water streaming down from a rooftop. Each stream represents something different:

From the right it goes success in work, good health, and LOVE!!! HEEEHEEE~!!!!!!!!Do any of you read Mahou Sensei Negima? There's a part where they come here XD That's how I first found out about it actually ^O^ Anyway, you're actually only suppose to drink one stream but who cares!? We all drank all of them XD I drank a looot of the love one, hehehhee XDD I felt really good after that so I bought a little love charm they were selling infront of the streams ^O^ When I went to choose, the only thing that had to do with love had the description: "Happy Love (Happy Marriage)" So I asked the lady who was selling it if it had to be only for marriage...could it just be for love? She gave an explanation but I could only make out.."....watasu...suteki na hito to meguriau" Waaah T_T That line totally whisked me away into dreamland, and so I bought one (red) XDD I still don't know where to hang it, but I will find a way! ^O^

We walked around a lot more and headed back to the bus. The way back was a complete nightmare for me X_X Because it was (still) raining, EVERYONE, except for me, had an umbrella X_X So there I was, little old me, getting my headed whacked back and forth by everyone's umbrella X_x I swear I was getting hit so many times! Everyone's umbrella was really low, and since the street was narrow and jam-packed with people, I could not avoid getting hit X_X We bought some Kyoto delicates too ^O^ I forget what's it called but it's really yummy d^O^b

Then we returned to the bus and headed for..some Shinkansen (bullet train) station ^O^" We were going to take the Shinkansen to Nagoya station ^O^ We got to the station and we waited in a waiting room (VERY WARM. I DID NOT WANT TO LEAVE XD) but then we had to run to the Shinkansen because it was coming in like 5 min O_O But we still had to wait a while when we got there. After maybe about 5 min, I turned around to talk to my friend and then WHOOOOOOSH!!! The Shinkansen flew by!! WAAH! I missed seeing the head =( But oh well. We all ran onto the train (because it only parks for 30 secs O_O) and sat down at whatever empty space.

It was a horrible ride!! =( We sat in the smoking section X_X *is somewhat allergic to cigarette smoke* It was okay for about 5 min until this old guy next to me lit up a cig X_X I just died X_X Then! I decided to take a picture as a token of the "wonderful" ride -_-" I took out my camera, but it wouldn't turn on!!! It kept flashing "Please turn off and on again" no matter how many times I did it!!!! I was so scared that it broke!!!! Q_Q~~~!!!It's only the third day, and my camera busted?!?!?!?!?!? NOOOOOOOOOOOO!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

After we reached Nagoya station, I asked Sensei if there was a place where I could fix my camera (my mom got it for me in Japan). We had some free time at the station to go shopping around the area. Takahashi-san said that I should try out Bic Camera (not sp). So I went there with my friend and I had to talk a staff guy about my camera in Japanese X_X But I actually understood! It was incredible! ^O^ He said that water had got into the lense which is the main problem (FROM ALL THE DAMN RAIN GRRRRRRRR!!). The camera wouldn't turn on because the lens was stuck O_O He wiped it a little and then he said that too really fix it, they'd have to send it to the mother company where they could open it and clean it up. THREE WEEKS, he said. *dies* No way! I told him that I was going away today Q_Q He said that I would have to pry open the lens myself now ^~^" It wasn't about a pleasant matter, but I understood what he was saying! I was so proud ^O^ I bought some lens-cleansing cloth and left ^~^"

My friend and I didn't know what to do after, so we walked around Bic Camera; we went to the CD/DVD/games section ^O^ I saw Final Fantasy XII for pre-order!!!!!!!!!!!! I WAAAAAAAAAAAANT IT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! WAAAH!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I also saw Dirge of Cerberus!!!!!!!!!!!! Want want want Y_Y But waaay to expensive X_X I just waited for the fake one to come out in Thailand. I actually already got it - will play it this weekend! ^O^ Wahoo!! We walked around the stores in the station (really big) O_O and even went outside into the city ^O^ I think it had stopped rainning by then? When we went out to the streets, we had to cross a whole horde of people O_O Everyone was wearing a black coat and were all walking one way X_X It was like playing "Frog"! (calculator game). I had to wave through the streams of people to get to the other side X_X We just walked around doing window shopping ^O^ On our way back to the meeting point, I saw Kame's Docomo poster!!!!!! My camera was semi-working (phew!) so I took a pic!! ^O^

HOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOT

At our meeting point, there's a whoole wall for Vodaphone with Junichi Okada and one of the Gokusen actress!!!! "Everything is Love"

Then we went to eat YAKINIKU!!!!!!!!!!!!!! This was probably one of the best meals in the whole trip!!! We got to pick our own meat and cook it ourselves! ^O^ It was really fun!! ^O^ We actually got a bit out of hand, because someone poured in water and the WHOLE THING LIT UP!!! O_O!! The staff had to come put it out for us lmao XDD Someone threw ice into the grill too ^O^" And my friend put in some veggies, but no one ate it XD It got so burnt it looked like cooked meat!! LMAO XD Everything was sooo delicious O_O I was really enjoying the rice and everything until Sensei came over to see how we were doing. She looked at my 'rice bowl' and said "Um...*points to 'rice bowl' that's a tea cup ^O^" ROFLMAO XDDD!!!!!! The tea cup and rice bowl look almost exactly the same except one is a teensy bit smaller XDDD LMAO!! XDDDD!! How culturally ignorant am I? XDD

After our tummies got stuffed, we headed for the ANA Hotel, Hotel Grand Court Nagoya ^O^ (that's just one hotel, btw). My friends and I went out to the convenient stores and there was DOCOMO STORE RIGHT ACROSS THE HOTEL!!!!!!!! But it was closed T_T I peeked through the shutters and saw really big posters of Kame and Jin though! hehe! ^O^ I looked through the magazine stand at the conbini but I couldn't find anyone I knew. Then we went to an actual magazine store (outside I heard them play Shuuji to Akira's "Seishun AMIGO" too!) and I stood there pointing out all the hot Johnny's boys to my friends XDDD It was very fulfilling XDDD!

We returned to the hotel and I watched TV XD Heyx3 was on before we went to the conbini, but when we came back Bistro SMAP (HILARIOUS) was showing ^O^ I also saw a KAT-TUN commercial! And a whole news program that talked about all the Johnny's calendars that were coming out!!! Enjoy the piccies XDD!!!! (The bathroom for this hotel room is pretty neat. There are speakers in the bathroom connected to the TV. So you can hear whatever the TV is saying in the bathroom, lol ^O^" When we came back from the conbini, I took a shower and I heard Nakai's voice! It's so recognizable XD When I came out I saw that it was Bistro SMAP ^O^)

Yeah, I bought Koichi's calendar!!! I love it! April can't get here fast enough so I can FINALLY hang it.
If you hurry you can still order your copy from CDJapan. I checked there and also at YesAsia but it's already out-of-print at YesAsia.
Did the program you watched mention the free gift? I don't know about the other calendars but Koichi's free gift is AWESOME!!! It's a small book FULL of page after page of photos of just him. BIG BONUS!!!

Wow~ Temples are big tourist sites in Japan? Everything sounds great, 'cept the rain. ~_~ It's raining here, too.

Temples are pretty much the only big thing there is to see in Japan XD I mean, if you're not into the fashion or the entertainment stuff...so yeah, temples are a big thing in Japan =^O^= It may sound boring to tour around a temple, but there are more shops there to buy from than in a department store! O_O!
